Rambo Fly Buster with Vamoose Rug Review

Same subject, different year...FLY RUGS! If you search through the archives of Gee Gee and Me you will read that the Premier Equine Super Lite Fly Rug didn't tick all the boxes for us, and however much I love my Mark Todd Air Mesh Combo Rug it isn't right for a native in the height of Summer - however our thoroughbred faired perfectly in it

Therefore 2016 welcomes the Rambo Fly Buster Rug with Vamoose by Horseware, Oscar has been wearing it regularly throughout May and early June and we're ready to share our thoughts with you!

The Rambo Fly Buster Rug with Vamoose is made from a unique patented, durable fabric that is super soft and comfortable, however be prepared not to trust your first impressions as when I excitedly unfolded the rug out of it's packaging it felt stiff, I was unsure whether it would be another case of trial and error, but after the first wear it softened and within a week was totally flexible - phew.

The picture shown is Oscar's first wear of the rug and you can clearly see the folds, this will give you an idea of the fabrics structure when I unpacked it, however instantly softened after a few good rolls!

The fabric offers excellent UV protection - a must have for Oscar as he is clipped all year round, we must remember when we clip our horses we take away their natural sun protection - is fully breathable and treated with Horseware's incredible Vamoose technology that claims to be the most powerful and long lasting defence against insects. Although we're only in June and the bug population will increase as Summertime progresses and temperatures rise, I already notice a difference during peak times when others in the herd are swishing their tails, Oscar does so noticeably less.

The rug is lined at the mane and shoulder area to prevent rubbing and after Oscar has been rubbed raw by rugs in the past I can confirm even when freshly clipped the Rambo Fly Buster Rug with Vamoose has been nothing but comfortable. Plus his mane has remained in tact, and on the subject on manes, the neck rug is detachable. The body of the rug features leg arches for freedom of movement and a super sized tail flap for all round coverage!

I find it super easy to take on and off, the neck fastens with two velcro tabs, the chest is the classic Rambo V-front design and the belly has extra protection closing with three straight surcingles. The fit is generous, Oscar wears a 6'0 and I could have possibly bought him the 5'9 so if you're in-between sizes, go for the smaller option.

Overall this is the best fly rug Oscar has ever worn, the design and technology compliment one another perfectly and it is worth every penny of it's price tag (RRP £129), I hope it ages as well our trusty Mark Todd rug and continues to keep Oscar happy and content throughout Summer!

Thank you for reading, Jessica and Oscar xxxx
